The History of Scrap Gold University

Here is a little about the history of Scrap Gold University. Would you like to learn the scrap gold business online at your own pace in the comfort of your home? If so you have come to the right place!

I founded Scrap Gold University as a way to help others learn the the lucrative scrap gold and silver business in a fun, and informative atmosphere. The school was originally called Scrap Gold Business School, but that was changed about a year in to Scrap Gold University.

A Little History: In 2009 I knew nothing about the scrap gold business, although I had been a coin collector since age 12. Seeing a great opportunity I searched high and low for information on how to start my business. I was disappointed to discover there was none and so I set out to teach myself the business one step and one mistake at a time.

I, like many other struggling Americans needed to make some additional money in this down economy in order to make ends meet. While I had an extensive background in silver and gold coins, and bullion, I knew nothing about junk gold, junk silver, and scrapping.

The Beginning: It was July of 2009 and my wife and I wanted to liquidate some semi-numismatic $20 slabbed gold coins we had acquired in the 90's. I searched the Internet, found a gold dealer, and contacted him. A short time later I drove down to the valley and met John at American Precious Metals. John had been in the business for over 20 years.

I brought my list of gold coins I wanted to sell. After an hour meeting, John went on to tell me that I should really look at opening up a coin shop with a focus on scrap metals, in my area. He also told me that I could call him anytime I had a question. John changed my life!

With no previous scrap experience I took the plunge, researched the subject on Internet and bought the needed equipment. I then rented a small oak case in an antique store, and put my coins out for sale, along with a sign offering to buy scrap gold. Well the rest is history. What started out very, very, small business, has now expanded into several full time operations. It is a fun, and lucrative business.

About a year later I had paid the price and found success, but I wondered how many others had gone before me and failed simply because they didn't have a guy like John to help them navigate their way past all the pitfalls of the scrap gold business. How many couldn't get find the right answers to critical and important questions? How many of them would have succeeded if they only would of had a John to help them get things right?

Then I had an idea. Why not give something back why not pay it forward to all those who had not yet succeeded but had the desire? Maybe I could be a "John".

My Scrap Gold Business You Tube site was created in March and launched in April 2010. With the help of some of his Internet friends I got a few plugs and a few subscribers.

But I now had a bigger idea. Why not start an online school specifically for those wanting to get into the scrap gold and silver business? I always had big ideas. Perhaps it was in my genetic makeup as my biological father taught at Virginia Tech for 31 years and helped over 6000 students start their careers. It seemed like a good fit.

In June my Scrap Gold University idea was launched and its virtual doors were opened in late July of 2010.

It matters not whether you are seasoned numismatic pro, or a inexperienced scrap metal rookie. I have created this venue to help you grow in your experience, knowledge and skills.

I am here to help you succeed like John helped me.
